October Update

My beautiful friends,

I feel as though it has been so long since I’ve last written to you in form of an update and I wanted to connect. If you follow me on social media you may be hip to how quickly my life moves and changes, but if not you’re in for a bit of a ride!

First, a note on why I haven’t been here quite as frequently:

Barefoot Yoga Shala is my (omazing) brick and mortar yoga studio and in the past few months and weeks I have been balancing both my yoga and my writing career. I’ve been trying to meld the two worlds that I love so dearly and make me, well, ME!

Some days I do it! I feel like the street performer in Boston high up on my stage juggling knives and balls of fire…. But there are other days when I feel like all eyes are on me and I (literally) drop a ball on someone’s head… which then tumbles into the person standing next to him and so on and so forth. Life is a balance, a dance and a wave. I can be easy and wonderful and altogether the most difficult thing you could imagine.

With all that said, my writing “career” has kicked off! I have written this blog for almost three years now and am starting to share my story and love with other publications. Recently, I’ve been featured in Activewear USA, Tiny Devotions & THE HUFFINGTON POST. I cried when my HuffPo article came out and my husband immediately took me for jalapeno margaritas and delicious shrimp tacos.

I also have a secret coming.

Without further ado….

What I’m Reading

As an avid book lover, a self proclaimed nerd and someone who is in a book club I have a million pots on my ever burning educational fire. This month I have read Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness which I read in 24 hours (okay I’m exaggerating… 30 hours). I purchased it on my iPad at 5:00pm on a Tuesday and was finished by Wednesday evening at 11:00pm! It. Is. AMAZING. I cannot wait for book club this week to discuss the twists and turns and real-life Dr. House drama. If you’re looking for a quick, emotional and phenomenal journey of strength, love & resilience that also happens to be a true story, THIS is your book/

I am also reading The Fire Starter Sessions. I should have seriously read this back when I read The Desire Map. I love Danielle Laporte, she turns me on and lights me up in a way I could never have imagined and as a writer she is liquid gold.

An October Update

Open Heart October

At the Shala this month, we are doing a challenge called Open Heart October. It’s all about getting to your mat (20 times in 31 days) and tracking your gratitude. I have a lot to be thankful for this month and have even had the opportunity to push myself to join in the challenge by being on the mat as well. This past weekend I attended the Saul David Raye bhakti immersion workshop and was LIGHT UP! I’m so happy I attended and have been thrilled to push myself onto the mat more often than I have in weeks. I’ve also enjoyed a crystal bowl healing, kundalini yoga, North End Yoga with my friend Erin and various other local studios and teachers.

Adventures

As you all know, I love goals! So this year I set a handful of fall wish list items. A few weeks back I went pumpkin picking with my mom (one of my items) on a last minute, spur of the moment adventure. Neither of us was truly dressed to be at the farm as we were coming hot off the press from church, but it was such a joy to be with my mom on a beautiful fall afternoon, sipping hot cider and eating delicious donuts as we observed young families and reminisced about my childhood adventures and talked about the future with stars in my eyes. And my pumpkin is ROCKING.

I have also been on a few North End dates with my friend Erin as we plan to have #bigthingsbrewin in the coming year. We sip cappuccinos and attend yoga classes as we connect over dreams.

Another amazing adventure was my moms recent 60th birthday! We held it at the Shala and had the opportunity to be with our friends and family all afternoon and we covered my mom in gifts and love.

Lastly, Karthik and I celebrated our THIRD wedding anniversary this year. We bought each other themed gifts and laughed the evening away as Capital Grille spoiled us rotten with anniversary cakes and rose petal covered tables. We have had many lazy Sundays, time with our families and dog walking adventures. Life just seems grand at the moment.

Things I’m Digging

This month has been full of slowing down, organizing and love. Currently I’m digging any energy work (reiki, charka cleanses, crystals, bhakti chants) and all things technology. For our anniversary, Karthik got me a wifi card for my camera which allows me to immediately upload my photos from my DSLR to my iPhone and it’s a Godsend. I’m also re-igniting my passion for my iPad (and let me tell you Brain on Fire definitely helped). I’m also digging my brand new church, adventures to come and the amazingly bright future planning I’m creating… but more on that later.

Sending you oodles and oodles of love, loves.

Get out there – do yoga & make life sparkle!
Namaste
Jenny
